Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts at becoming popular were not successful. Two different record labels signed her, but dismissed her prior to having recorded any songs. Capitol Records released Perry's Ur So Gay EP in 2007, and received some interest due to its flippant track. Perry made more of a splash in the following months with her single "I kissed a Girl an assertive ode to the fascination of sexuality accompanied by a sharp electro-pop beat. It quickly sparked controversy as some critics derided it for promoting same-sex relations as well as others argued that the sexually explicit scene the song depicted sparked male fantasies of sexuality among females. I Kissed a Girl, the combination of excitement with a sophisticated melody, helped I Kissed a Girl to become a hit number one in a variety of countries, and to drive the sales of her album, One of the Boys. Its bouncy, sharp-tongued and bouncy second single Hot N Cold also proving well-loved, the album that Perry wrote herself eventually registered sales of more than three million copies within the United States.
